My Mom and step Dad used to live in Mulberry George. His family lived nearby; some in Willow Oak. Some killer bass in those old phosphate pits.

That's a great first step. But I think other methods should be implemented as well, simply because the school officers cannot be everywhere at once and it takes time to react. Here are a few other things I think should be implemented.
Mental health professionals. People educated in psychology that are able to really help with everyday stresses that children and teenagers have to deal with. School counselors are a joke for the most part.
Possibly metal detectors at the entrance where students come through. Yes it will hold up the students, but what an extra 15 minutes compared to their safety. Armed officers outside during this time to deter any would be shooter from attacking the group in the morning or afternoon.
