Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pushed through a controversial change to Senate rules Thursday that will make it easier to approve President Obama's executive and judicial branch nominees.

The Senate voted Tuesday to confirm Michigan billionaire and Republican donor Betsy DeVos as education secretary in the narrowest approval of a Cabinet nominee in the nation’s history. The Democratic caucus of 48 senators voted against DeVos, as did two Republicans, setting up a 50-50 tie that was broken with a vote from Vice President Pence.
