"It confirms for the first time that the event that set the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation in motion was not the surveillance of Trump adviser Carter Page — a subject upon which most of the memo dwells — but rather that it was opened as the result of information the bureau had received about another person connected to the Trump campaign.
That other individual is George Papadopoulos, a young foreign policy consultant who in October became the first person associated with the campaign to plead guilty in the special counsel’s investigation. He is now reported to be a cooperating witness.
“The Papadopoulos information triggered the opening of an FBI counterintelligence investigation in late July 2016 by FBI agent Pete Strzok,” the memo noted in its final paragraph.
Democrats quickly seized on that sentence to assert that the Republicans’ own memo shows that the Russia investigation would be underway with or without the surveillance of Page, and — more critically — even if the government had never seen a dossier of information about Trump that was compiled by Christopher Steele, a former British spy."

--> Strzok was reassigned by the Special Counsel’s Office to FBI Human Resources for improper text messages with his mistress, FBI Attorney Lisa Page (no known relation to Carter Page), where they both demonstrated a clear bias against Trump and in favor of Clinton, whom Strzok had also investigated. The Strzok/Lisa Page texts also reflect extensive discussions about the investigation, orchestrating leaks to the media, and include a meeting with Deputy Director McCabe to discuss an “insurance” policy against President Trump’s election. <--
You liberals are all grasping at straws. The rest of that last paragraph is what is really telling and clearly shows that any idea of wrong doing is complete BS. The "investigation" was opened based on complete and utter political bias with every intent to try and derail a Trump election or, in their perceived worst case scenario, a Trump administration.

Honest question: (1) The investigation was started May 2017. By then Trump had been President since January. How could it possibly have derailed his election? (2) How could the messages between two FBI agents having an affair, whether or not they were Trump fans, have had any effect on the election at all? Yes, they certainly were biased, but they only had one vote each, no influence, and I'll bet you a dollar to a donut that 90% of FBI employees are R's (because of the law enforcement function).

two FBI agents may have beenbiased against Trump even though it appears they did not like Hillary any better. But they were removed anyway. The memo shows no indication of any unethical action by the FBI

What this memo shows is that Trump brought a man onto his foreign policy team that had been under surveillance since 2013 for his dealings with Russian spies. It had nothing to do with the campaign......he joined that later. Nice job of vetting......
