There is still nothing in the law that states "Don't say Gay", but don't let that get in the way of your narrative.

True that the word "gay" is not in the law; however, whehter it prohibits the word "gay" is itself a distraction. It's the same way critical race theory is not taught anywhere outside of graduate level law courses, yet you have conservatives, including Desantis, use the term critical race theory to engage in certain political maneuverings. It's the same thing with "Don't Say Gay" is a moniker about a certain political framing of sexual orientation and gender identity. The authors of the law stated that it wouldn't prohibit students from talking about LGBTQIA family or classroom discussions on LGBTQIA hsitory but that it bars "instruction" of sexual orientation or gender identity. But the text does say both. The preamble states the aim is to pprohibit “classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity.” Then in the bill itself states “classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur.” The law itself doesn't even define what the "instruction" of sexual orientation or gender identity entails. So without a clear description or definition then teachers legitimately fear being sued for a wide variety of classroom instruction including lessons on same-sex marriage or history of the AIDS epidemic.
The people who sponsored when it was a bill never answered repeated questions on examples of "instruction" of sexual orientation or gender identity during either the House or Senate debates. One Republican state Rep when asked just read the definition of the word "instruction" from the dictionary.
Republicans being vague on what instruction means - that was intentional.

It only has that framing because the left wants it to have that framing. They control the narrative, and anything that real people want to believe makes them the enemy because they don't tow the line with what the liberals are pushing.
There is no need for "sexual orientation" in schools. That should never be part of the curriculum. It has no purpose being taught in schools, so it won't be in Florida. Getting rid of the Dept of Education and the teachers unions will go a long way in getting US kids back to the top in Math and Science scores globally. Getting rid of the social justice activists in the classroom will as well. Putting education back in the hands of the states is necessary to get our country back to the top.
Activism in any form should never be allowed to influence kids.

The latest update has the FL board of education motion for current lawsuit to be dismissed as they will allow the Penguin book back into the school libraries. Their argument is that the FL law only applies to classroom instruction. Hmmmm. So will all the books that we're banned be allowed back into school libraries? Of course not. Will all of Shakespeare literature be back in libraries? Maybe. This is in response to how some groups in response to these anti-LGBTQ laws have been submitting complaints in order to remove the Bible from schools to include libraries. An unexpected consequence the Moms of Liberty folks didn't anticipate would happen.
