Ms. Brenda bought me this series for Christmas. I grew up reading the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and watching these movies. Maybe it is my age, but I believe that Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce are the quintessential Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson

I grew up thinking the same thing, LTC Orlando Illi. However, after watching the Granada Television series starring Jeremy Brett, I’m afraid he took the top spot for me. Unlike many of the Basil Rathbone movies, Granada produced all period pieces and to me, the characters are more reflective of what Doyle achieved on paper.

I agree that Benedict Cumberbatch as well as Jeremy Brett do offer newer, more interesting interpretations of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and I enjoy watching them both. Nonetheless - I still prefer Basil Rathbone
