Some things to consider for EDC. I am not a pack carrying kind of Guy. The laws in TN, with regards to permit holders, make on body carry the easiest way to go. My youngest son has been carrying a cross body sling type for several years. He used to ride His motorcycle more than He does now, and found it to be the best way for Him. He's also a member of the county CERT team. So, in addition to his pistol and extra mags, He carries a hand held HAM and extra battery, and different antennas. He actually carries a 3M inside the foot square pack.
P.S. ed. One important consideration is that when using the sling everything You put in it while upright is going to be upside down in the normal carry position. pack accordingly.

I try not to bring any unwanted attention to myself, to me anything out of the ordinary does that. If you are in a college town and lots of folks carry Backpacks then I'd say go for it, but Seniors like myself rarely tote a Backpack.

I do a lot of driving and thus I use a crossdraw holster. On a rifle I use a regular sling but my armored-vest has a bungie hang-strap so I am 'at ready' when I put it on. My helm has a flip-down IR monocular that is 1-1 so I don't have trouble adjusting.

I use a sling pack when bow or rifle hunting. Normally I take it off to get stiff out. My handgun stays on my hip.
