"Sir, you humiliated us." - A Commander's Lesson in Leadership - The Military Leader

Has this ever happened to you while in training or on your job? It has happened to me, and sometimes I created the humiliation by barking out orders personally to a troop and embarrassing him in front of his peers. We forget what it felt like when we were the target. But, there are times when we could blow our top, for the troops not doing something the way we want it done, and we take it out on the first troop we see. Sometimes it makes the entire company suffer the mistakes of one troop. I called it discipline in the ranks. It was my way or the highway. I was taught there are three ways of doing something. It's the wrong way, the right way, or the Army's way. The Army's way trumped any other way. I don't know if it's still like that with all the political correctness, but I suspect it is.
