I used to skydive, SGT James Murphy. It’s been forever ago, but here’s what I remember. We jumped at Moton Field (home of the Tuskegee Airmen) in Tuskegee, AL. At the time, there was almost no aircraft activity and there were no manned flight operations (no control tower) there. Despite this, our jump pilot always filed a flight plan (maybe a NOTAM) with the closest operational airport (Columbus, GA) which notified all airmen that skydiving activities were underway and that jumpers would be in the air at Moton Field. That was in the seventies for goodness sake! Surely something like this would still be done! Seems strange to me!
Any thoughts on this, SSgt (Join to see)?

LTC Stephen C. The flight(s) are posted but not all pilots read all postings for airports that are not their arrival or departure point. Which is unfortunate.

This happened where I used to skydive. One of my friends captured it on video (in the link below). It's not supposed to happen as a cylinder of air is broadcast way ahead of time as a no fly zone. Not every pilot checks the local airport broadcasts though. The slurry bomber here was just coming back from a huge fire in the Rockies - near Denver.

SGT James Murphy - Not finding it on the net now. It was posted back in 2002 though.
