Social Security is running out of money, benefits on track to be reduced by 2035

Stories like this are the epitome of Click-Bait. True? How can it be. Social Security isn't an entitlement. It's self funded by contributions. Fifteen percent of most people's income is impounded by the federal government. (What? You didn't pay 15%? You did if you're covered. You may have only seen 7.5% deducted from your paychecks, but your employer was paying the other half - which could have been paid to you if not taken for Social Security) People like me, the self-employed, simply paid the full 15% (it was called "Self-Employment Tax") Imagine the retirement fund you could have built on your own with that money. I know that I would have been earning more each month than Social Security now pays me in retirement benefits. So, how is it running out of money? Well, when the Democratically-controlled Congress and President Johnson opened the fund to raiding (replacing real money with government bonds that the government cannot redeem) that did it. So, how come Social Security can run out of money but there's always money for entitlements (benefits that no one paid for)? That's simple. There's always money to buy votes... On the other hand, this may just be fake news. Whenever it's a slow news day, the media simply throws out another scare to grab our attention and, if it makes President Trump look bad somehow so much the better.
