There was a strategy and COIN does work but it's not a short duration experience. We won every battle in Vietnam, and every major offensive in Iraq/Afghanistan. The reason we lost is simply due to lack of commitment to fight offensively. You cannot win a war through Defense, Sun Tzu knew that. Problem is our politicians are more concerned about getting reelected then they are about winning wars. Listen to GEN MacArthur's final speech to congress, where he describes the failures of the Korean war the same policies of appeasement used in the Vietnam war and Iraq post 2008. Iraq was doing great when I left. We need a long term commitment in order to win, the Taliban certainly are committed.

How could democracy work in an area that can not separate religious law from political law? COIN, though well intended, can not work where the west is viewed as Satanic and from the house of war.
Overwhelming force could make COIN appear to work for awhile in Afganistan, Iraq, Syria, etc...
How can Afganistan ever change when 49% of males have a NAMBLA dream world?
We involved ourselves in a religious/tribal war all over the Middle East now. Look at the millions of Muslims invading Europe. Also, the problem with Islam has been brought here.
Endless war Sir and change by force in the west means our strategy is suicide.
I only bring up two major points. Let us view a larger picture. Where America attacks it's middle class, the Federal government supports racial division and debt out the wazoo.
Turkey is now in Syria. Has the US given Syria and half of Iraq to Russia and her allies?
Israel is now surrounded by Gog and Magog.
Whoever designed this strategy appears to hate truth and Israel.
I would like to be wrong Sir. But, I fear I am closer to the true truth.
