Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on July 1, 1947 Soviet Foreign Minister V. M. Molotov walked out of a meeting with representatives of the British and French governments, signaling the Soviet Union’s rejection of Secretary of State George C. Marshall's Plan to offer economic assistance to the war-torn nations of Europe to help in their recovery.
Molotov’s action indicated that Cold War frictions between the United States and Russia were intensifying.
Those of us who served in Europe during the Cold War remember the tension between NATO and the USA and the Warsaw Pact and the USSR.

The Marshall Plan, the creation of N.A.T.O., & the strong resolve of tough U.S. President Harry S. Truman resulted in eventual Cold War victory without the horrors of a predicted "nuclear holocaust." Harry Truman's numerous principled decisions elevated America's place in the post WW II world.
