Wonder if it hampers "situational awareness" due to confined space. Loss of peripheral vision and hearing?

Depending on the round a 44 Magnum has a Muzzle energy between 750-900 foot pounds. An AK-47 is about 1500 foot pounds. Obviously, any protection is better than none, but why use a pistol as the reference, as opposed to a military rifle?

For low-info readers? Average "civilian" knows about .44 magnum i.e Dirty Harry "make my day". Maybe not as many are aware of AK47. For military types it makes more sense to use enemy weapon of choice as the standard, AK47.
