Anything coming out of the entertainment industry these days is suspect. Even this popular franchise can be co-opted into an ideological statement. Of the TV series that followed the original, each failed to match the rugged individuality of James T. Kirk, an individuality that certain ideologues revile...

That is true just like in the cartoon Wally it talk about global warming and destruction of the planet and the social justice of The Twilight Zone and Star Trek of back then could also put on a message that like you said could be suspect period we will see.

Captain Kirk was playing the role of Odysseus, something none of the subsequent Star Trek series were able to capture. Jonathan Frakes came closest in Star Trek the Next Generation.

Star Trek Continues E03 "Fairest of Them All"

In the Mirror Universe, Spock faces a choice that determines the future of the Terran Empire.

There's a TV series on YouTube and even Netflix I think called Star Trek Beyond which is a remake of the old Star Trek with the same overacting that William Shatner did and played but others. It isn't the best acting but if you like the old sets this is something new and this episode continues on the episode of Mirror Mirror where the transporter malfunction sends Captain Kirk and is away team to a parallel dimension of the Federation being an Empire. You may remember that "mirror mirror" episode. This is a sequel to it.
