There are some strange objects in the Universe and one of those objects is a Magnetar... You say you've never heard of one of these? Here is a basic description, but there is more to it than this as this science video will attest...
A "Magnetar" is defined as a neutron star with an extremely strong magnetic field. If one of these entered our Solar Solar system...
"If you were to be unlucky enough to be just about a thousand miles from a magnetar, the magnetic force would warp the atoms in your body and the gravitational forces would literally tear you apart. A magnetar just 100,000 miles away from the earth would wipe out all the data in every credit card in the world." (Feb 15, 2014)
I recommend that you watch this short video in Full screen with sound at a moderate level... so that you get the most out of it... I hope you both enjoy it and learn a bit about "Magnetars"

I really enjoy the posts about space that you and Bill put on. There is definitely a lot to learn. My favorite is Archeology though.
