At my school Veteran Services is just a place for veterans to bitch about everything, not a place I'd like to hang out at

That in itself can be valuable when used in the right context. Often times, one of the reasons for forming these "communities" is to have a place to vent with like-minded individuals. Veterans Services' main focus however should go beyond just a place to hang-out. It should be a first-step into the introduction of benefits at that particular institution; along with an opening into the "big-picture" which is securing a job that you are passionate about. How this is all accomplished is the difference between the Veteran Services offices throughout the country.

Thanks for the insight. At the moment, our Veterans Services office is merely a lounge with a few computers, couches, and forms you can fill out for various things. I know everyone needs a place to go with like-minded people to vent to, but the few times I have been, it just doesn't feel like forward progress is being made. A Veteran Services office like the one in this article would be a big step in the right direction

I am Glad to services are available to the young Vets... some many services are not so tolerant of vets or as helpful as they should be, or as they are more Helpful to those who have never served ... They prefer the Brainwashed Minions of the Progressive secondary educational system
