The VA just released this data. You can download in PDF both national and state data sheets. The state data sheets include: Suicide deaths among Veterans in each state, Suicide rates by age group, Suicide deaths by method compared to regional and national data.
Some of the main findings: Suicide rates among Veterans were higher than among non-Veterans. Veterans who use VHA services had a higher rate of suicide death than non-VHA Veterans, overall Veterans, and non-Veterans.
Suicide rates among both Veterans and non-Veterans ages 55–74 increased between 2005 and 2015. Veterans accounted for approximately a suicide rate of 27 per 100,000 population. Non-Veterans a suicide rate of 17 per 100,000 population.
The greatest number of suicides among male Veterans was observed for those ages 55–74 years.
