Working for the VA is a VERY GOOD gig! Love my job helping Veterans get their most pressing questions answered.

I concur with this. I've been with OI&T at the Ann Arbor VAMC facility, and my experiences have been nothing but positive. Not only are you serving your fellow veterans in whatever capacity, you are often working alongside your fellow veterans, as well. I've found a sense of belonging that I haven't had since taking off the uniform.

These VA Police jobs are an interesting read. Having contacted them for various openings, I have to turn them down, because they fail to recognize any academy other than their own. One would think that if FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center) is good enough for the rest of law enforcement it would be good enough for them.

It's not that FLETC training isn't good enough; rather, it's the perpetual wall that the VA's LETC (Law Enforcement Training Center) has run into regarding getting FLETC to recognize their academy. The closest they've gotten is FLETA accreditation, which from what I understand is the next best thing.
This particular opening isn't entry level anyway, and my personal opinion is to offer this within the VA Police organization for officers to have upward mobility when it's available. Probably my municipal LE experience coming out, where every promotional opportunity (other than the Chief's position) was for current officers and staff.
