Once Trump gets his new Supreme Court Justice in place, things will change. The lower court decisions will be heard, hopefully will positive results.

Good, passing laws that violate voting rights to stay on power is a heck of a lot worse problem than illegal voting, at least from the evidence we have.

How does requiring a legitimate form of identification in order to vote violate one's rights? We show a valid ID to purchase alcohol? Tobacco in some jurisdictions...

LTC (Join to see) - The problem generally with how these are structured is that not everyone has equal ability to get the required ID and the people that can't usually fall into one political camp. This is much the same reason we did away with other types of poll taxes. Not everyone can afford them and strangely enough it always seems the people who can't are most likely to vote for the other party than the party in charge. It's almost as if the people enacting the legislation knew the disparate effect and did it cynically. Almost...

LTC (Join to see) - Some more information on why the appeals court had a problem with the law. As an FYI, they didn't rule that all voter ID laws are problematic, but ones such as the Texas one, are structured such that it much more likely impacts people who will vote for the other party than the party who passed the law.

Good!! The law was ridiculous. it accepted some forms but not others. not every courthouse could issue them you had to find a place to get them. Gun licenses was good but others weren't.
Nothing standard in any state.
