Having spent 2 years there a long time ago I found Algeria to be a unique situation. The Algerians are a proud people and self-determination is important to them but very complicated due to the variety of the population. While there I observed a country with a 'civilian' government but actually ruled by the military which plays a very pivotal role. The Algerians appear to be still working for this same self-determination and still struggling to arrive at a solution. Very complicated arena for sure.
