China government practices using bio-metrics on it's people, this is what high tech wants in the US as well. I don't think US based high tech companies are interested in privacy and free speech since these global companies are required to cooperate with foreign governments to operate there. It would be easier for blanket censorship rather than allow the US to have it's own rules and therefore should be regulated by protecting American's right to free speech online. Anyhow, I still think it's weird that someone elses phone not just a camera could use your information such as facial recognition. Facebook just gushed over the fact that China uses facial recognition and it plans on rolling out facial recognition within facebook, for example, which could include phones.
