From the opinion piece: "In addition to the 20,000 active New York City licenses for rifles and shotguns, there are over 40,000 active handgun-license holders in the city, most of whom have a premises license."
From Bing search "NYC Population"; "The past 5 years, it has been seen that the population of New York City each year goes up by 0.04248 Million. So, the number of people in New York City in 2019 is expected to be 8.702 Million + 0.042 Million = 8.744 Million"
A few taps on the old calculator, "et Viola" Legal gun ownership in NYC is a whopping 0.7% roughly, While the population of NYC makes up roughly 2.4% of the Country's total. Inconsistencies much?
Once again I'm strongly opposed to the authors conclusions. You're going to have to make up your own minds.

There are some places in the country that I will not travel with my handgun and they are mostly in the northeast. For example, I won't travel with a weapon in NY or MA, full stop, not worth it. California gets a bad wrap but I always and legally travel through California with my handgun (Though I make sure I have plenty of ammo before I enter the state because it is now a total PITA to buy it here).

They are passing sales taxes in certain cities on ammunition in Washington too.

CPL Douglas Chrysler - In CA now you have to go through a background check again, so you have to register in their system which costs $$$. Just easier to buy it out of state.
