The only thing I hated about mess cranking was that I was working on the Mess Decks when we were doing SONAR exercises in the Atlantic. So instead of doing my job, I was in the kitchen.

Meanwhile, a Yeoman with no mail to sort or papers to process was standing SONAR watch... "Oh hey - you Yo's have nothing to do so fill the watchbill." Thanks COB...

I sympathize with you and can relate with my own experiences with KP in the Army back in the Sixties,awoken at 3:30 AM facing a day doing cleaning grease traps,pots and pans,trays and flatware in boiling water constantly being screamed at by the Mess Sergeant for not moving fast enough,but enough of the fun and games, then you got to GI the mess hall for the next day!
