SGT (Join to see) talking about the monsters in the closet is very difficult. I did seek help and thanks to EMDR and a lot of talking I sleep through the night most nights. It was hard to reach out for help, but I am glad I did.

I hear you LTC (Join to see). But, me getting help, was an either or situation with my wife.

Me too, and I'm glad you did it too, instead of becoming another statistic, LTC (Join to see).

For me, talking helped. Things did get worse before they got better, but I had a good doctor that me push through till it got easier to talk about.

I was always told it was like a huge scab and it had to fall apart piece by piece.

SGT (Join to see) - I guess that could be a fairly accurate description. The doctor I saw was when I was over in Germany, and that is kind of how she did it, was little by little, and giving me different out comes to look at.

The first thing I had to was accept was I had an illness like any other illness, except it was a mental illness. That was hard to swallow. I went to a VA, PTSD therapy session for six months five days a week. I'm so glad I did. I'm very glad you did too.

I wouldn't talk to anyone about it unless they were a PTSD specialist. I went to a shrink before going to the VA, and although he said he understood, he didn't have a clue about military PTSD.

Most psychiatrists should now about PTSD. My wife is a nurse, and she had to take a course on PTSD to get her license renewed. PTSD is the same disorder but caused by different kinds of trauma.

What is acutely humbling and painful is starting in a deep dark tunnel, making tremendous progress forward, and falling back into the tunnel. People think they can rationalize away all their PTSD problems, but it won't curtail all the hurt caused by regression.
