My wife was outraged at how the police were complicit in the death of a woman in nearby Neptune, NJ. A police officer (Sgt Seidle) fired two volleys at his estranged wife, in front of their young daughter and several of his fellow LEOs. In spite of all the delay, she was still alive when she reached the hospital, but died shortly afterward. She might well have survived if the police took justifiable action in her defense'
The police were found blameless. The state guidelines for deadly force by police listed lots of circumstances when police MAY use deadly force, but no instance when they MUST use deadly force to protect innocent life.
These are the same fine folks who design gun laws aimed to assure that "only the police should have guns".
