Even this almost makes me laugh. "played a "central role" in the war"??? Hell's bells, without slavery, there would not have been a war.

Susan Foster Having an Uncle that Sold School Books to School Districts the Problem is Much Worse. You See the Texas School Districts were one of the Largest Consumers so School Books were Written to Texas Standards throughout the Country. Needless to Say Slavery was Downplayed in Schoolbooks Everywhere.

Oh, that slavery played a central role as a cause of the war WAS TAUGHT in many Northern states when I was growing up. That reason sort of faded though as the text books "forgot" about it. There were other causes as well, but of lesser importance. Four of my great grandfathers came to the USA from Canada to fight in the Grand Army of the Republic against SLAVERY.
