I know a lot of us have a problem with people saying "Thank you for your service". I suspect that many have no clue what they are thanking us for. It's just a "thing" we do like saying "Bless you" when someone sneezes. How many know that colds were once feared diseases and that a sneeze could be a precursor to death. That's why the habit of saying "Bless you" got started. Still, does that ignorance minimize the meaning of the gesture? Well, when people say "Thank you for your service" I respond "It was an honor to serve" and move on. If you are troubled by this, seek help. Oh, and BTW, "Bless you"

I always try to shake their hands and that them for noticing. While it is true that many have no concept of what Military Service consists of - many try to express their gratitude. I have met some asshole that snicker once in a while if I am wearing a shirt that signifies my service. I ignore them.

Another one, Jack is " why do you guys do this" after a rendering honors at a veteran's funeral. We respond " because it was our honor".
