PO3 John Wagner - I will point out the "j/k" I left at the end of my last post in case you missed it (which stands for "just kidding" in case you didn't know that). I was just giving you a hard time. I haven't ever fired a S&W .500 Magnum, so I have no first-hand basis for comparison either. I read some articles comparing the most powerful handgun cartridges, and I seem to recall the .500 Linebaugh as being at the top. I think the .454 Casull was ahead of the .500 S&W Magnum, but I wouldn't bet anything valuable on it. I would happily use either one on a bear that is charging me.
Interesting and a bit sad that the handgun Dirty Harry said was the most powerful handgun in the world, the .44 Magnum, now wouldn't even make the top five, and maybe not even the top ten.

PO3 John Wagner - About the bear standing down because he recognizes the S&W but maybe not the Ruger? Sounds Rugerist to me.

LTC (Join to see) - Ya. Greenhorns and marginally dickless. Why they be running down the middle of road? Seems to run out of steam at 120.. Our family car 77 dodge with a 318 2 barrel large primary would do 143. I mean WTF? Doesn't anyone remember when damn near every V8 out there could hit those speeds? Now these kids will pay big money and think something like that is hot shit. They trim the weight down far enough that you've got a tinfoil box on a performance ....maybe .. chassis with a motor that is not exactly a crotch rockets..
I was shocked at the weight of the BMW. It must be built like a friggin tank.

They are pretty amazing. With what I put on for mileage... I have 17,000 on my 2011 pickup and I drive it a lot... when I am home..it should last me. I don't think they break much. My 2016 truck makes up for mileage....

Your “family car 318 2 barrel” wasn’t even the fastest Dodge. In 1977 the Dodge Lil’ Red Truck with the 360-4 barrel was the fastest domestic vehicle, faster than the Corvette even, and only topped 120. Cars in the 1970s were dog slow. Most “musclecars” of the pre-malaise era weren’t even that fast. Rare was the 13 second car, they were the top line 428 SCJ, 426 Hemi, 427/454 Chevys, but most of the Fords were 351 or 390, the Mopars were 383 or 340, and the Chevys 350 or maybe 396. They were high 14 cars at best. The new crop of cars, foreign and domestic, destroy them. And today’s cars aren’t stripped out, they all weigh 4000+ pounds due to safety equipment mandated by federal law. And they still run 12s. And good luck with that BMW. It’s still losing value and if it hasn’t broken yet, it will. And then you’ll see why it was so cheap. It is a rapidly depreciating asset.
