I never ever thought I would see this shortage of Air Force Pilots, as a subject for discussion. This story explains some of the reasons of the shortages.
Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James said legislators on Capitol Hill, locked in partisan gridlock, shoulder part of the blame.
The U.S. Air Force faces a shortfall of 700 fighter pilots by the end of the year and as many as 1,000 pilots within a few years, Air Force officials said Wednesday.
“It is a crisis,” said Gen. David Goldfein, the Air Force chief of staff. “Air superiority is not an American birthright. It’s actually something you have to fight for and maintain.”
Aggressive hiring by commercial airlines has helped thin the ranks of Air Force pilots, and lengthy deployments overseas, long separations from family and reduced flying time when back on U.S. soil have exacerbated the problem, Goldfein said.

the ancillary training, off duty hour requirements, politics and non flying tasks sucks the fun and fight out of the air crews...all the new politically correct. Bullshit, .not to mention do it yourself MPF and DTS....... .Delta here I come.

I have been trying to become a pilot since 2010. Finally this could be my big break! My test scores are high, USMC HQ has approved my inter-service transfer, now I just need to pass the selection board!

They don't mention forcing pilots to fly drones... don't have to worry about that if you switch to civilian flight.
