So what I'm hearing you say is that you saw him and others ask the question over and over, and instead of answering, so the mystery is solved and they can finally stop asking, you decided to make a giant event out of this, put him on mass blast as if he had done something wrong, make a giant PR spectacle of the situation and THEN answer his question.
Maybe next time just skip the middle steps.

Exactly. Sometimes you just have to give the customer service/PR response when dealing with social media.
