While reading about actions on the battlefield, I remind myself of all the little stuff that's done before a bullet goes down range at the enemy. Its not the planning, the movement, defensive positions, and actions on contact that are telling. Those sort themselves out.

It's the order of march, patrol bases activities, slit trenches, cache sites, food, sleep and maintenance. How well those things go are what makes life in combat bearable, or at the very least tolerable.
