The chaos that occurred with the defeat of France and then the defeat of Japan - and the events that set in motion the rise of the Viet Minh. I had not realized MacArthurs role in it all.. but he of course did factor in...... and how so is an interesting piece in this article.

As a side note - the Victory Column in Bangkok... was actually the puppet Japanese govenment of Thailand's victory over Vichy France. The column architecture is straight out of Fascist Italy... and the story of it all is often forgotten being it is just a big monument and Skyliner stop.
