The mere mention of the bombing of U.S. Embassy in Beirut brings back very sad and angry memories SGT John Wesley.
As PO1 William "Chip" Nagel pointed out it was later that year in October when the marine barracks was attacked by a truck laden with explosives which killed so many Marines.
This was the one time that I remember President Ronald Reagan backed away from terrorism to preserve our forces who were in civil-war-torn Beirut.

April was the Embassy Bombing and in Oct the Bombing of the Marine Barracks at Beirut International Airport. 1983 was a Horrible Year for the Marine Corps.

Worked with a young man that had to help collect body parts after this happened, he sort of warped his mind.
