There is much of AI that can be applied without lots of societal angst. Robotic Process Agent (RPA) are becoming common in the Interactive Voice Recognition (IVR) Systems because we can recreate the steps taken to complete a number of consumer changes. Customers respond best to in person interaction, when this is not available, then talking to a person from your same regional dialect. If neither of these are available, brief IVR prompts are better than taking call centers offshore.
These are the 'easy' areas of automation in AI. Compared to industry the governments of the world are woefully behind.
Having the AI replace human decisioning in areas of repetition and low consequence is wise. Having AI alert key decision makers of important elements in making a decision is wise.
Having an AI make the decision over complex solutions and processing impacting people and resources is unwise and should be avoided or at minimum have human safeguards.
