SSG (Join to see) looks like it could explode anytime.
In his note, Calapkulu implied that as his views were "peacefully expressed," they should be tolerated. Critics of Erdogan aren't always given that benefit: Over the past year, scores of Turkish journalists and many others have been investigated on accusations that they insulted public officials, usually the Turkish president. Among those who could face charges include a former Miss Turkey and a 16-year-old schoolboy.

Erdogan is trying hard to steer away from a nonsectarian government, it's why many in the military are worried about him. Given everything that we have seen, it wouldn't surprise me to see Erdogan declare himself Caliph and then take a much more active role in the wars to his south.

SGT Damaso V Santana - Which means he'll likely have their support if he kicks off Ottoman Empire 2.0.

Maybe not a definite 'caliphate', but given the recent developments all signs point to some kind of totalitarian regime.

Could be interesting. Hanafi/Sunni Muslim vs Wahabi/Sunni Muslim. Hanafi's were much better at Running a Caliphate or Ottoman Empire if you like than the Wahabi's with their Sand Box. Hanafi's ran the Bulk of the Muslim World until the Ottoman Empire was disestablished at the end of WWI for backing the Wrong Horse the German/Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Ottomans didn't lose many battles that I am aware of.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - Perhaps, however if it means the Kurds do have a semi-autonomous state and that Daesh/ISIL is finally crushed, it's not hard to see why it might be popular in certain circles. A good deal for us as the Donald would say...

SSG (Join to see) - I wouldn't hold my breath on the Kurds ever having anything. No matter the dislike the Iranians, Iraqis and the Turks have for each other they hate the Kurds worse and consider them Heretics of the worst kind with their Hybrid Faith Mix of the Ancient Persian with the Islamic Faith.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - A semi-autonomous Kurdish State that comprised parts of Turkey, Syria and Iraq could resolve the entire conflict. Turkey could also form an Arab state that consisted of former Iraq and Syria and declare it a semi-autonomous state. The region becomes stable and the Ottoman empire is reborn. The only real loser in all this would be Russia and terror groups like Al-Qaeda and Daesh/ISIL.

The US and Europe both win as a NATO ally gains influence and stabilizes the region. The Kurds win as the map is redrawn and they get their own State. Syrians and Iraqis win as their governments are replaced by one that is relatively modern and functional and they get the Caliph they have been dreaming about since the first Ottoman empire fell.
