SGT John " Mac " McConnell, My uncle, George Brooks Curlee, was a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. This photo was taken on the Rhine River near the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen sometime after its capture and subsequent collapse in March 1945. He served in the 70th Infantry Division "Trailblazers", so he had no part in the capture of the bridge, and I can't really find any data to show what the 70th was even doing in that area at that time. He's cradling a small puppy in his arms, so I'm sure he just took a photo opportunity as did hundreds of other soldiers.
