The dirty politics behind an American tall tale

I'm not sure what Vox's point here is...So David Crockett, a noted (and historically proven) opponent of Andrew Jackson's removal policies towards the Cherokee, is a "sell out" for joining the Whigs in support of the 2nd National Bank? Even the commentators seem to agree that Crockett's alliance with them may have been somewhat coerced. At the end of the day, the man got fed up with Washington D.C. after losing his election, and famously said, "Your may all go to hell...and I'll go to Texas!"

He did exactly that, and in my opinion...died a hero.
