Bethune was named honorary General of the Women's Army for National Defense. After the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps was converted to active duty status in July 1943, she also served as an advisor for the new Women's Army Corps.
Mary McLeod Bethune was born in 1875, number 15 of 17 children of former slaves, during the genesis of Jim Crow and the anti-Black violence that would ultimately plague the South for the duration of her life. By the time of her birth, Patsy and Samuel McLeod owned a small farm near Mayesville, South Carolina. Deeply religious, they encouraged their curious daughter to attend a mission school where she thrived. The young Mary McLeod became so enthralled with learning that she won a scholarship to continue her studies at Scotia Seminary for Negro Girls in Concord, North Carolina, and spent one year at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois. It was during her time at Scotia and Moody that she developed her philosophy of “female uplift” and her passion for educating girls for leadership in their communities.

Are you inspired how she went to battle in the time frame she did and the conditions ?
Personally in 2021 I hate the word Black White Brown to identify humans in groups, completely separate in access to even a bathroom. Yes indeed this was the fight in the South that Mrs. Bethune would fight against laws specifically targeting with the World Black, people of a certain skin or look.
I mean where their albino African Americans then? Lighter shade of pale African Americans then, that had already mixed?
But the law said no “black”.
I have no idea how they handled lighter shade of people who had parents of mixed color skin tone. How would a Albino African American be looked at?
By the time Mrs. Bethune would live this, the Civil War had been fought and won, and Slavery was abolished, mainly fought by the people of lighter skin tone, north vrs south
So we have humans who support and defend the laws never turning on someone that removes similar justice to them compared everyone else
But yes decades etc were already laid and memories were formed.
So we need to continue to get to the best place and not throw away the history we already have and earned and continue to grow from and com back to We The People as I believe Wealth is not what is in our pocket as in cash on hand but more so the complete package of the existence of your human paradigm.
Can you express youself? Can you eat healthy food if you choose? Can you make friends with whomever if you wish?
