To bad the congress now a days, doesn't have the backbone to do the same.

The Veto & Override are some of our best checks & balances. They are especially great in an equally divided Congress who "barely" manages to get to a bill onto the President's desk

Thanks for providing a historical context of the Presidential veto in action SP5 Mark Kuzinski. I expect Zachary Taylor felt like he was slapped in the face when Congress had the temerity to override his veto of their legislation. Since this was the time of part time legislators unlike the full-time legislators we have today this must have been shocking to him.
