This wasn't chattel slavery, it is indentured servatude.
You might ask what the difference is because they are being forced to work. The difference is indentured servants were people not property. They couldn't be forcibly slept with (i.e. raped), their children were not born into slavery, they had rights under the law.
We don't allow indentured servatude any more, but it shouldn't be confused with chattel slavery that was endured by people from Africa.
