I became a serious student of the Civil War in 1963. I began by reading an eleven volume tome on naval engagements of that period (yes there were enough to fill eleven volumes). Since then I devoured the popular works of Bruce Catton and Jeff Shaara, et al. I then moved on to source material, diaries and correspondence. I can't begin to catalog all of it. And still, there are tales that I haven't heard, such as the tale of Confederate spies who invaded Vermont...
