I will be doing the 75th Anniversary Memorial at our American Legion, Congaree Post 90 on the 1st of February. The story is heart tugging, knowing the history of all four Chaplains, and how they were brought together on the USAT Dorchester. I know that Congress authorized a special Medal of Heroism for the Four, that is equal to the Medal of Honor, but I still cannot help think that since the Dorchester was torpedoed by a German U-Boat that would not classify as being killed in battle and be eligible for the Medal of Honor. The Legion has put forth two resolutions requesting they be awarded the Medal of Honor Once in 1957 and then in 2006.
