Some real mixed emotions here as the acclaims begin rolling in. Absolutely, a supreme talent with world-class accomplishments and, I understand from talking with a fellow soldier who knew him, a big and philanthropic heart. My pause, of course, stems from the fact that he and I were both drafted in April of 1967. His rationale for refusing service was his religious convictions citing Islam as "the religion of peace." I know it is my problem but I wonder if Jane Fonda is going to attend the services. Let the negatives begin. @

What occurs to me is that so much attention is being paid to the concussion issue in football, yet we allow boxers to beat each other's brains out with no comments. IMV, a lot of his problems were exacerbated by his career in boxing.

When I was a kid, I had an autographed photo of him. I have been a fan for a very long time. He will be missed!

Mrs. Ali, was a personality that defined sports of his era. He, in my opinion, was the greatest master of the English language I've ever seen among athletes. However, he is not, in my opinion, worthy of praise as some great man of character. Having said that , I would still love to have had the chance to have met him. He was just a little to conceited for me at times. In other words, he is not someone I would want my son to emulate.
