Some of the Japanese military did not want to surrender at all. Given what the Japanese did to so many civilians they had in their camps, it is a wonder the allies didn't turn the entire Japanese islands into ashes.

The japanese high command was pushing hard. Reading what was going on inside the palace and government buildings would make for a wild and suspenseful action movie. I am so glad bigger and better heads prevailed.

Just a note, does ANYTHING that happened on 6 Jan resemble an actual coup?
