SSgt Donald Libby, thank you for providing a link to a story by a historian that is an anti-gunner. Once again using factual information to cloud the issue and stands as a proponent of the prevalent international attitude that there is no right to firearms for self-defense.

The author's interpretation of the 2nd Amendment and the reasoning behind it, plus his interpretation of English Common Law is also flawed.
"The Bill of Rights 1689 allowed Protestant citizens of England to "have Arms for their Defence suitable to their Conditions and as allowed by Law" and restricted the ability of the English Crown to have a standing army or to interfere with Protestants' right to bear arms "when Papists were both Armed and Imployed contrary to Law" and established that Parliament, not the Crown, could regulate the right to bear arms."
Interesting that the 2nd Amendment is not the only item in the Constitution (and a few in the Declaration of Independence, as well) that actually speaks to individual civil rights that level the field of equal rights and equality.

Thank you for your reply. The purpose of my posting was NOT to promote either side on the issue but to show through an historical perspective the what we are experiencing today has a precedent from 165 years ago. Next time an article like thos co,es along I will post it to under History so I don't give someone agina.

SSgt Donald Libby - That is fine. I was pointing out the flaws of the author's statements. What gives me 'angina' is the deliberate rewriting and deliberate misinterpretation of historical fact and historical interpretation to support the anti-gun movement. And as I pointed out in my comment, some of what he was trying to imply and state is directly contraindicated by the wording as stated in the English Bill of Rights of 1689, one hundred (100) years before the U.S. Constitution.
And please do post any new or even old news or opinions like this so that they can be readily debunked or supported. Thank you.
