CPT Jack Durish I also trained with the M-14. It was heavy and the 7.62 NATO rounds were heavy too, but you didn’t have to worry about it jamming from a little dirt or water. The 16 was light with smaller 5.62 NATO rounds, but it really sucked when it kept jamming. I’d rather had the 14. The Marines were still using the 14 when I got there. I felt sorry they didn’t have the lightweight 16, until mine jammed every other magazine. I’ll take my M 60 over all of it.

I fired the M-14 when I was on the SC High Powered Rifle Team in the late 80s into the mid 90s . I carried the M16 variant while I was in the Guard on three combat tours up until I retired. I love the M-14 and would take it hands down over the M-16 any day.
