Well apparently even males who aren't chosen to move on don't know why. Deciding to get out because she wasn't chosen seems a bit shallow to me. Not sure the generals offer makes any sense though, kind of like accepting a counter offer from a company after you have already submitted your resignition.

Sir, while reading the article I though the General had done the correct thing. She “might” make a great officer and be an asset to the Marine Corp.

The way I see it, she had her heart set on MARSOC so when it was no long a feasible option, she set alternative goals. She's gotta be pretty tough to made it as far as she did though.
