LTC (Join to see) - C-2 Gruman Greyhound was the Cargo Plane for the Carriers until now. They sound like they're switching to the V-22 Osprey to Replace the Greyhound though.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel no wonder I confused it with that anti-submarine Warfare plane.

LTC (Join to see) - A reactor is nothing more than a power plant. It has a maximum safe continuous operating capability which can be maintained at a certain level indefinitely however, with eight reactors it was indeed “overbuilt”.
Yet in this case overbuilt meant that no particular reactor had to be operated at any time.
Reactors build up “poisons” (byproducts of fission which still interact with the U235 and create a critical condition for a long time.)
With eight reactors it was like a big engine whose cylinders could be shut down.
I am sure that any four reactors were perfectly capable of producing full ships power.
Although I am once again positive that so much excess capability could easily allow all reactors to constantly be in use at low levels... sustainable almost indefinitely.

How did that work Were they scattered all over the ship or all in one central area?

Too bad they couldn't just retro fit it to extend it's life.

They could extend its life but to retrofit to today’s capabilities would be incredibly difficult and expensive past belief.
Why we didn’t sell the ship to an allied nuclear Navy might seem odd yet the same principal applies.
That navy would also need to retrofit.at extreme cost.
While the United States could do so it is impractical. There is no way to retrofit away some of the compromises of age.
Much as people scoffed at the use of the old battleship in the movie of the same name the criticism is valid. At some point a machine is outdated.
Our B52’s have become increasingly difficult to maintain because new parts must often be created from scratch as it were.
Part of the extreme cost of war machines is the fact that they must function without fail.
A breakdown or deficiency in even a minor system may cause the loss of the vessel or more importantly the loss of its usefulness in a conflict.

Probably but budget line items for the Enterprise would be hard to fund. Just ask Air Force about having to scrap perfectly good aircraft due to cost of maintaining them and conflicting budget line items.
