The LCS class is the LAST ship any Sailor is going to hold up as stellar examples of fighting vessels. They're the Navy's f-35.

Understood. But it does seem like the Navy's big-budget schemes are its equivalent of "precious," at least at times..

As a former Weapons Officer, the ship is not supposed to hit the target. Replacing targets gets expensive. An aiming offset is entered into the fire control system to fool the gun into thinking its hitting the target. The US had already had a LCS fleet; US Coast Guard.
