Usually not a reader of the opinion page write ups- but this one caught my eye and could have wrote it myself. I came in during the early Reagan years and saw the rebuilding of the post-Vietnam tear down of the military. Lived the flows and ebbs of them ever since and have seen the direct results of cutbacks, doing more with less, TQM initiatives, among other issues. You read about the pilot shortages- you will soon hear of a doctor shortage as well. This is not past the fix point, but pet programs from those so far removed from the everyday need to be addressed.

If "they" really want to build nations, how does it make sense to send in the agency that is equipped and trained to destroy nations. Shouldn't there be a separate group for nation building? We could call it the Peace Corps.

Our military #1, needs to be focused on defending our nation, and giving aid in the times it's need. Nation Building should be separate of our military. Iran, and Afghanistan are prime examples!!!

Like the pic and your note about when you saw the beginnings of the military buildup. That was the time that the requirement for the Osprey came about. Now, when was it actually placed into service?
