If you want to be offended, you can always find a way to be offended. Anything can be taken out of context and twisted to impute an offensive meaning. The whole thing grows tiresome and I'm becoming increasing offended by those taking offense. How about you?

"You can always find a way to be offended" and "I'm becoming increasing offended by those taking offense" are gaslighting and deflection, important techniques to understand when attempting serious, transparent conversation.

Along time ago I was attended a program about communication. There are three part of every communication.

A. What the speaker thinks he said.

B. The actual words the speaker said.

C. What the listener thinks the person said.

Successful communication occurs when A and C equal. B is of little significance if A = C.

I think we need to think about C as we speak. What will the listener tend to hear. And we need to think hard about A as we listen. I believe way to often we become predisposed to hear only what we want.

In short I agree many do not know that what they say can be heard differently, and many listen only to hear what they think the speaker was going to say.

Might as well post the dictionary. Looks like everything offends somebody. Rest assured that if I want to offend you there will be no doubt in anyone's mind what I am saying. Don't need to come up with obscure BS.

I think you've made the best summary as of yet regarding the site. After reading maybe a few dozen, and even adding what PO3 Steven Sherrill said and his points, there's a lot of things that at some point have been made to be considered a slur.
